Ingredients

3 cups cantaloupe or watermelon, peeled, seeded, and coarsely chopped

2 small kiwifruit, coarsely chopped (optional)

2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

2 cups water

sugar, to taste (optional)

ice

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and clean water.

  2. Peel, seed, and coarsely chop the cantaloupe or watermelon into chunks. If using kiwifruit, peel and coarsely chop it as well.

  3. Place the chopped melon, optional kiwifruit, and lime juice into a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth.

  4. If desired, add sugar to taste and blend briefly to combine.

  5. Pour the fruit mixture into a large pitcher and add the water, stirring well to combine.

  6. If you prefer a smoother slush without pulp, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a clean pitcher, pressing gently on the solids.

  7. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for up to one week.

  8. When ready to serve, stir the slush well, pour into tall glasses filled with ice, and serve immediately.
