Accessibility at Grocery List Plus
Last reviewed: April 14, 2026
In short
We design Grocery List Plus to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. If you hit a barrier, email accessibility@grocerylistplus.com — we treat it as a priority bug.
Our commitment
Grocery List Plus is built for everyone. Whether you shop with a screen reader, navigate with a keyboard, dictate to your phone, or rely on captioning and high contrast, the app should work the way you do.
We design and build to WCAG 2.1 Level AAon the web and follow Apple's and Google's platform accessibility guidelines on iOS and Android. Accessibility is checked during design, validated during development, and audited periodically by an independent third party.
What we build for
- Screen readers— semantic HTML, ARIA labels on interactive controls, descriptive image alt text, and a visible “skip to main content” link at the top of every page.
- Keyboard navigation — every action is reachable with the Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and arrow keys. Focus indicators are visible at all times.
- Color contrast — text and interactive elements meet the WCAG AA contrast ratio of 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text and graphical elements).
- Resizing and zoom — the site reflows cleanly up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling or lost content.
- Reduced motion — animations honor the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting in your operating system. - Forms and errors — labels are associated with inputs, errors are announced to assistive tech, and required fields are marked clearly.
- Captions and transcripts — videos include captions and, where applicable, transcripts.
- Languages — the interface is fully translated to Spanish, with additional languages planned.
Standards we follow
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA
- Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
- The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Apple Human Interface Guidelines — Accessibility
- Google Material Design — Accessibility
Known issues
We try to be transparent about gaps. As of the date below, the following areas are known to fall short of our target and are scheduled for remediation:
- Some third-party recipe images are sourced from partners without alt text. We are backfilling descriptive alt text from our nutrition database; coverage is improving each month.
- Older blog posts may include embedded videos that lack captions. We are re-captioning the back catalog as a separate workstream.
- The barcode-scan view on iOS does not yet announce the detected product immediately to VoiceOver. A fix is targeted for the next app release.
If you encounter an issue not listed here, please tell us — we treat accessibility bug reports as priority.
