Ingredients

1 12-ounce bottle Guinness or other stout beer

¼ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tablespoons Granulated sugar

1 pinch Kosher salt

3 cups Whole milk

8 ounces Dark chocolate, chopped

4 ounces Irish cream liqueur

4 ounces Irish whiskey

Directions

  1. Pour the stout beer into a medium saucepan and gently heat over medium heat until small bubbles begin to form around the edges, about 3–4 minutes. Do not boil.

  2. While the beer warms, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a small bowl to combine evenly.

  3. Add the cocoa-sugar mixture to the warm beer and whisk thoroughly until smooth and fully dissolved, stirring for about 1–2 minutes.

  4. Gradually pour the milk into the saucepan while whisking continuously to create a smooth, velvety blend.

  5. Add the chopped dark chocolate to the saucepan and continue whisking over medium heat until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is hot and frothy, about 4–5 minutes. Do not allow it to boil.

  6. Remove from heat and stir in the Irish cream liqueur and Irish whiskey until well combined.

  7. Pour the Irish hot chocolate into serving mugs and serve immediately while hot.
