Ingredients

2 teaspoons instant coffee powder

4 teaspoons sweetened condensed milk

1 cup hot water (approximately 200°F / 93°C)

10 ice cubes

1 tablespoon chocolate syrup, optional, for garnish

Directions

  1. Pour the instant coffee powder into a heat-safe mixing glass or small vessel.

  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk to the coffee powder in the same vessel.

  3. Pour the hot water over the coffee and condensed milk mixture. Stir thoroughly for about one minute until the condensed milk is fully dissolved and the mixture is well combined and smooth.

  4. Fill two serving glasses with ice cubes, dividing them evenly between the glasses.

  5. Pour the coffee mixture evenly over the ice in both glasses.

  6. If desired, drizzle the chocolate syrup over the top of each glass as a garnish. Stir gently to combine, then serve immediately while cold.

This recipe is genuinely fast, costs under $1 per serving, and uses shelf-stable pantry staples available at every Charlotte grocer—instant coffee, condensed milk, and chocolate syrup are standard stock at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, and ALDI. The five-minute claim is honest; there's no hidden chopping or reduction time, just brewing and assembly. The only minor friction is that some households may not keep instant coffee on hand if they're espresso-or-drip drinkers, but it's a single-bag purchase that lasts months. This is a reliable weeknight drink that scales easily and reheats poorly, but that's by design—it's a same-serve beverage.
