Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups water
pinch Pinch of salt
2 cups fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 cups cold whole milk
Directions
In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, and pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Once boiling, remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
Pour the fresh orange juice and fresh lemon juice into a large bowl. Add the cooled sugar syrup and stir well to combine all the citrus and syrup flavors.
Slowly pour the cold whole milk into the citrus mixture while stirring constantly. The mixture should be smooth and well blended.
Transfer the sherbet base to a shallow freezing container or ice cream maker. If using an ice cream maker, follow the manufacturer's instructions to churn and freeze until it reaches a soft-serve consistency. If freezing by hand, freeze for 2 hours, then stir vigorously with a fork to break up ice crystals, and return to the freezer. Repeat this stirring process every 30 minutes for 2-3 hours until the sherbet reaches a smooth, scoopable texture.
Once the sherbet reaches the desired consistency, serve immediately for a soft, creamy texture, or store in the freezer for firmer scoops.
