Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 large garlic cloves (14 grams), smashed and roughly chopped

1 teaspoon crushed black peppercorns

400 grams precooked edamame (about 3 cups)

1 teaspoon dried red chili flakes

1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Directions

  1. Crush the black peppercorns using a mortar and pestle, spice grinder, or food processor until coarsely ground. Set aside.

  2. Smash the garlic cloves with the side of a knife to split them open, then peel away the papery skin. Roughly chop the softened garlic into bite-sized pieces.

  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and lightly golden at the edges.

  4. Add the precooked edamame to the skillet and toss constantly for 2-3 minutes until heated through and lightly coated with the garlic-infused oil.

  5. Sprinkle the crushed black pepper, chili flakes, and salt over the edamame. Toss continuously for 30-45 seconds until the spices are evenly distributed and the pods are well coated.

  6. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve immediately while warm.
