A vibrant, glossy blueberry sauce infused with bright citrus and warm spice. Fresh or frozen blueberries are gently simmered with orange juice, sugar, and a hint of almond extract, then thickened with cornstarch for a luxurious coating that clings beautifully to pancakes, waffles, yogurt, or desserts. The sauce comes together in just 15 minutes for an elegant, naturally sweet topping.

Ingredients

2 cups Fresh or frozen blueberries

1 cup Orange juice

¾ cup White sugar

¼ cup Cold water

3 tablespoons Cornstarch

⅛ teaspoon Ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon Almond extract

Directions

  1. Combine the blueberries, water, orange juice, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently to combine, then bring the mixture to a boil.

  2. In a small bowl or cup, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth, creating a slurry with no lumps.

  3. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the simmering blueberries, stirring gently and continuously to avoid crushing the berries. Stir in the cinnamon and almond extract.

  4. Continue to simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a metal spoon, about 3 to 4 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
