Ingredients
1 slice thick-cut bacon (about 1 ounce)
½ tablespoon unsalted butter
1 large egg
⅓ slice American cheese
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
½ kaiser roll or bulkie roll
½ tablespoon mayonnaise, optional
Directions
Cook the bacon slice in a skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches your desired crispness, about 4–5 minutes per side. Once cooked through, transfer to a paper towel to drain and cool slightly.
Wipe out the skillet or use a separate one, then melt the butter over medium heat. Crack the egg directly into the pan and cook until the whites are set and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C), about 3–4 minutes for a slightly runny yolk or longer for fully cooked.
If desired, season the cooked egg with a pinch of kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Lightly toast the kaiser roll cut-side down in the same skillet, or use a toaster, until golden and crispy.
Spread mayonnaise on one side of the toasted roll if using, then layer the cooked bacon, cheese slice, and cooked egg.
Close the sandwich and serve immediately while the egg and cheese are still warm.
