Ingredients
1 slice whole wheat bread
1 egg
1 tablespoon shredded cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions
Preheat your oven or toaster oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place the slice of whole wheat bread on a small baking sheet or oven-safe skillet.
Using a small cup or measuring spoon, press or cut a hole in the center of the bread slice, being careful not to tear through to the bottom—you want the bread to hold the egg.
Crack the egg into a small bowl and gently slide it into the hole in the bread.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the egg and bread.
Bake for 7–8 minutes until the egg white is set and the yolk reaches your preferred doneness (the internal temperature should reach 160°F for food safety).
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chopped fresh chives and ground black pepper over the top.
Serve immediately while hot.
