Ingredients

4 chicken breasts

½ tablespoon rapeseed oil

1 teaspoon salt

1½ teaspoons garlic granules

1 teaspoon smoked sweet paprika

2 teaspoons mixed dried herbs

½ teaspoon black pepper

Steamed rice, to serve (optional)

Steamed broccoli, green beans, or green salad, to serve (optional)

Directions

  1. Lightly brush both sides of each chicken breast with the rapeseed oil and set them aside on a clean plate.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the salt, garlic granules, smoked paprika, mixed herbs, and black pepper until evenly combined. Pour the seasoning mixture onto a shallow plate.

  3. One at a time, roll each oiled chicken breast through the seasoning mixture, coating all sides evenly. Place the seasoned breasts into your air fryer basket in a single layer, without overlapping.

  4. Air fry at 356°F (180°C) for 18–20 minutes. Halfway through cooking (after 10 minutes), carefully shake the basket or flip the chicken breasts to ensure even cooking.

  5. Check doneness by inserting an instant-read meat thermometer into the thickest part of the largest breast; it should register 165°F (74°C) internally. Alternatively, pierce the thickest part with a sharp knife—the juices should run clear with no trace of pink.

  6. Transfer the cooked chicken to a serving plate and let rest for 2 minutes. Serve with steamed rice and fresh greens, steamed broccoli or green beans, or a crisp green salad on the side.

Chicken breasts and pantry basics are available everywhere in Charlotte—Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, and ALDI all stock them at competitive prices, with chicken running $6–8 per pound. The stated 25 minutes is honest for cooking but ignores prep (trimming, seasoning, chopping vegetables), so expect 35–40 minutes total; the rice also adds time if not started separately. This is a solid weeknight family dish that reheats decently, though air-fried chicken can dry out slightly when refrigerated. Rapeseed oil is less common than vegetable or canola—you may need to check multiple stores or substitute, which is a minor friction point for what should otherwise be a grab-and-go meal.
