Ingredients
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
2 cups ripe strawberries, stemmed, hulled, and roughly diced
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon lemon zest
Directions
Combine the balsamic vinegar and diced strawberries in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Stir in the dark brown sugar and kosher salt, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
Reduce heat to medium-low and allow the mixture to simmer gently for 15 to 18 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and reduces by about one-third.
Remove from heat and stir in the lemon zest.
Let the sauce cool slightly before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
