This is a summer cocktail that works for entertaining, but depends entirely on finding fresh basil in winter months and relies on a prepared mix that adds cost—daiquiri mix runs $4 to $6 per bottle at most Charlotte grocers, and you'll need 1.5 to 2 bottles for six servings. The 10-minute claim is honest for assembly only, ignoring any time to chill glasses or muddle fresh strawberries and basil properly if you're not using the mix straight; the real prep is five minutes if you're just pouring, longer if you're being thoughtful. This suits a warm-weather entertaining night where you already have rum on hand, but not a weeknight, and the fresh basil in particular means you're shopping at Harris Teeter or Kroger in their produce section, not ALDI or Food Lion where herbs are hit-or-miss. The drink won't keep, so this is a same-night recipe that demands an active hour of service.
