Ingredients
1.5 ounces Irish whiskey
1 ounce brown sugar syrup (equal parts brown sugar and water, combined)
6 ounces hot brewed coffee
0.5 ounce unsweetened heavy cream, lightly whipped
Directions
Pour the Irish whiskey and brown sugar syrup into a warmed Irish Coffee glass.
Fill the glass approximately two-thirds full with the hot brewed coffee, stirring gently to combine the whiskey and syrup.
Top the drink with the lightly whipped cream by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon to create a layer about 1 inch thick on top of the coffee.
Serve immediately and enjoy while hot.
Comments
Irish coffee is genuinely fast and the ingredients are available without a special trip—Irish whiskey at any Food Lion or Harris Teeter, brown sugar syrup (or homemade in seconds), coffee, and heavy cream all standard. The stated 10 minutes is honest, maybe even generous. The real issue is serving size: one drink is fine for an evening but doesn't feed a household, and while it reheats poorly, that's not the point of a cocktail. At roughly two dollars per drink when made at home, it's a reasonable treat that works for a single person or someone making rounds for guests, just not a meal solution for a family.
