Ingredients
1 cup fresh kale or spinach, washed
1 medium banana, peeled
1 cup low-fat milk, or fortified soy, coconut, or almond milk
1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1 medium apple, cored and sliced
1 cup frozen fruit (single variety or mixed)
1 tablespoon ground flax seeds (optional)
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
Directions
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before beginning.
Place the washed kale or spinach into a blender along with your choice of milk (low-fat dairy, soy, coconut, or almond).
Blend on medium to high speed for about 30 seconds until the greens are fully broken down and incorporated into the milk.
Add the peeled banana to the blender and blend for 15–20 seconds until smooth.
Add the plain yogurt and blend for another 15–20 seconds, scraping down the sides if needed.
Add the apple slices and blend until fully incorporated, about 15–20 seconds.
Add the frozen fruit and blend until completely smooth and creamy, about 20–30 seconds. If desired, add the flax seeds and chia seeds and blend briefly to combine.
Pour the smoothie into two glasses and serve immediately while cold.
Store any leftover smoothie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Stir or shake before serving again, as separation may occur.
