Ingredients
1 teaspoon butter
2 pounds loose fresh pork sausage meat
8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed, cut into large cubes
2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
6 large eggs
3 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Use the butter to grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the loose pork sausage meat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks, until no pink remains and it is cooked through (internal temperature 160°F/71°C), about 8–10 minutes. Drain off excess fat if needed.
Scatter the bread cubes evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the bread cubes.
Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the sausage layer.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, dry mustard, and salt until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture evenly over all the ingredients in the baking dish.
Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until the top is lightly golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, indicating the egg custard is set.
Allow the casserole to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
