Ingredients
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 medium onion, chopped
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 to 2 1/2 cups whole milk
Salt and black pepper to taste
Directions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion, cooking and stirring occasionally until the beef is fully browned and the onion becomes translucent, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
Sprinkle flour over the cooked meat and onion mixture, stirring constantly to combine. Continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes, allowing the flour to lightly brown and lose its raw taste.
Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency, about 5 to 8 minutes. Do not allow it to come to a rolling boil.
Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste.
Spoon the hamburger gravy generously over warm mashed potatoes and serve immediately.
