Ingredients

4 cups long-grain white rice

6 cups water

Directions

  1. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold running water in a fine-mesh strainer, stirring gently with your hand for about 2 minutes until the water runs mostly clear. This removes excess starch and helps achieve fluffy, separated grains.

  2. Transfer the rinsed rice to a medium saucepan and add the water. Stir briefly to combine.

  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, uncovered, without stirring.

  4. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 15–17 minutes until all water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  5. Remove from heat and let the covered rice rest for 5 minutes. This allows the steam to finish cooking and the grains to firm up slightly.

  6. Fluff the rice gently with a fork, breaking up any clumps. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve hot.
