Ingredients
1 Small cabbage, shredded
1 Carrot, grated
2 Medium onions, diced
4 tablespoons Butter
splash Water
1 tablespoon Ketchup
to taste Salt
to taste Black pepper
Directions
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions and grated carrot. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 6 minutes until the vegetables are softened and the onions turn golden and caramelized.
Add the shredded cabbage and the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet along with a splash of water. Stir to combine and distribute the butter evenly. Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low. Braise for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is very tender. If using older, firmer cabbage, add 3–4 tablespoons of water to ensure the vegetables cook through and develop a tender, succulent texture.
Stir in the ketchup until well combined throughout the cabbage mixture. Continue cooking uncovered for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm as a satisfying side to your main course.
