Ingredients

1 medium apple

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1/2 tablespoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons raisins

1 tablespoon butter

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before beginning.

  2. Rinse the apple under cool running water and pat dry. Using a small knife or apple corer, remove the core from the top of the apple, creating a hollow cavity while keeping the bottom intact. The opening should face upward.

  3. In a small cup or bowl, combine the brown sugar, ground nutmeg, and ground cinnamon. Stir until well mixed. Carefully spoon this spice mixture into the hollowed center of the apple, then sprinkle any remaining mixture over the top.

  4. Distribute the raisins evenly around and into the apple cavity.

  5. Top the filled apple with the butter by placing it into or on top of the apple mixture.

  6. Place the prepared apple on a microwave-safe plate. Cover loosely with microwave-safe plastic wrap or wax paper to prevent splattering while allowing steam to escape.

  7. Microwave on HIGH for 2½ to 3 minutes, until the apple is tender when pierced with a fork and the flesh has softened. Cooking time may vary depending on apple size and microwave power.

  8. Carefully remove the plate from the microwave—the apple and plate will be very hot. Let the apple rest on the counter for at least 30 seconds before removing the plastic wrap to allow the steam to settle and the apple to cool slightly to a safe eating temperature.

  9. Remove the plastic wrap and eat while warm. Exercise caution as the filling and apple flesh will remain quite hot.
