Ingredients

2 cups Non-fat dry milk mixed with water (2/3 cup dry milk mixed with 2 cups water), or 2 cups fluid non-fat or low-fat milk

2¾ cups Water

0.06 teaspoon Salt

2 cups Quick-cooking rolled oats

2 Ripe bananas, mashed

2 tablespoons Pure maple syrup

2 tablespoons Walnuts, chopped

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before beginning.

  2. In a small saucepan, combine the reconstituted non-fat dry milk (or fluid milk) with the additional water and salt.

  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm the milk mixture until it begins to steam and small bubbles form around the edges, but do not let it come to a full boil.

  4. Stir in the quick-cooking oats and continue cooking over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the oatmeal becomes creamy and thickened, approximately 1 to 2 minutes.

  5. Remove the pan from heat. Gently fold in the mashed bananas and maple syrup, stirring until well combined.

  6. Divide the oatmeal evenly among 4 serving bowls. Top each bowl with an equal portion of the chopped walnuts and serve immediately while hot.
