Ingredients

1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed and peeled if desired

3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Kosher salt to taste

Freshly ground black pepper to taste

1 lemon, cut into wedges (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, approximately 400°F to 450°F.

  2. Pat the trimmed asparagus spears dry with paper towels. If desired, lightly peel the outer skin from the lower half of each spear for a more tender texture.

  3. Place the asparagus in a large bowl and drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil. Toss gently to coat all spears evenly.

  4. Season the asparagus generously with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, tossing again to distribute the seasonings.

  5. Arrange the asparagus spears perpendicular to the grill grates (or use a grill basket) to prevent them from falling through. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes, rolling them occasionally with tongs, until the spears are tender and have light golden-brown char marks.

  6. Transfer the grilled asparagus to a serving platter. Serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top if desired.
