Ingredients

5 tablespoons butter or margarine

1 box (13 oz) Golden Grahams cereal

¼ cup light corn syrup

1 bag (10.5 oz) miniature marshmallows

1½ cups milk chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Lightly butter a 13×9-inch baking pan. Set aside 1 cup of the miniature marshmallows separately. In a large saucepan, combine the butter, milk chocolate chips, corn syrup, and the remaining marshmallows. Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until all ingredients are completely melted and smooth.

  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  3. Add the Golden Grahams cereal to the melted chocolate mixture and stir thoroughly until every piece is evenly coated. Fold in the reserved 1 cup of marshmallows.

  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan. Using the back of a buttered spoon, press the mixture firmly and evenly into the pan. Allow the bars to cool at room temperature for at least 1 hour until firm. Cut into 12 portions and store loosely covered at room temperature.

Every ingredient appears in any Charlotte-area grocery—butter, Golden Grahams, corn syrup, marshmallows, milk chocolate chips, and vanilla are staple stock at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, and ALDI. The cost per serving lands around $0.75–$0.95 depending on chocolate quality, driven mainly by the marshmallows and chocolate chips, making it genuinely inexpensive. The stated 75 minutes is honest if you include cooling time; hands-on prep is closer to 15 minutes. These bars are fussy only in that marshmallows demand a light touch when layering, and they don't reheat well—once set, they're best eaten within a day or two, fresh.
