Ingredients

2 pounds Thin asparagus spears

1 tablespoon Olive oil

Salt

Ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Remove the tough woody ends of the asparagus spears by snapping or trimming them off. Adjust an oven rack to the highest position, about 4 inches from the broiler heating element, and preheat the broiler to high.

  2. Place the trimmed asparagus in a large bowl and drizzle with the olive oil. Season generously with salt and ground black pepper, then toss until every spear is evenly coated with oil and seasonings.

  3. Spread the asparagus in a single layer on a heavy rimmed baking sheet with spears running parallel or slightly overlapping. Broil 4 inches from the heating element for about 4 to 5 minutes, then shake the pan to roll the spears and ensure even cooking.

  4. Continue broiling for another 4 to 5 minutes until the asparagus is tender when pierced with a fork and the tips and edges are lightly browned. Transfer to a serving dish and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

  5. Arrange on a serving plate and serve warm while still crisp-tender.
