Ingredients

1 pound fresh asparagus, thin or medium thickness

1/2 medium lemon

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Rinse the asparagus under cool running water and trim off the woody ends (usually the bottom 1-2 inches). Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.

  2. Fill a steaming basket or pot with about 1 inch of water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. Carefully place the asparagus spears upright or horizontally in the steaming basket, making sure they do not touch the boiling water directly.

  4. Cover and steam for 6-8 minutes, until the asparagus is tender but still has a slight firmness when pierced with a fork.

  5. Transfer the steamed asparagus to a serving plate. Sprinkle evenly with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  6. Cut the lemon half into wedges and squeeze the juice over the warm asparagus just before serving. Serve immediately.
