Ingredients
1 small sugar cube
6 ounces hot freshly brewed coffee
2 ounces Irish whiskey
Whipped cream for serving
A few dashes chocolate mole bitters (optional, for serving)
Directions
Place the sugar cube in a warm Irish coffee mug or heatproof glass.
Pour the hot brewed coffee over the sugar cube and stir until fully dissolved.
Add the Irish whiskey and stir gently to combine.
Top generously with whipped cream, pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon to create a distinct layer.
If desired, add a few dashes of chocolate mole bitters to the whipped cream and serve immediately.
Comments
This is dead simple and honest about its time—five minutes is accurate, and every ingredient (sugar cube, whiskey, bitters, cream) is available at any Harris Teeter, Food Lion, or Walmart in Charlotte without a special trip. Cost per serving runs about $3–$4 depending on whiskey quality, which is reasonable for a special-occasion drink. The only meaningful drawback is that it's a single serve meant to be consumed immediately, so it doesn't reheat or store, and it requires fresh whipped cream or you're making it with Cool Whip instead. For a weeknight digestif or weekend indulgence, it delivers.
