Ingredients
1/4 litre milk
1/8 litre water
1/2 teaspoon black tea leaves
1/2 teaspoon tea masala
2 teaspoons sugar
Directions
Pour the milk into a cooking pan or pot and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
Add the water to the boiling milk and stir well to combine.
Add the black tea leaves and tea masala to the milk and water mixture.
Stir in the sugar and allow the mixture to return to a boil.
Let the tea boil for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to fully infuse.
Remove the pan from heat and carefully strain the tea through a fine sieve into a glass, leaving the tea leaves and spices behind.
Serve immediately while hot and enjoy.
Comments
Tea masala—the spice blend of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger—is not a standard item at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Publix, or Walmart in Charlotte, forcing a trip to ALDI or a specialty grocer like Global Market on Monroe Road for the authentic blend. The remaining ingredients are pantry staples available everywhere. At roughly $0.30 per serving for milk, tea, and sugar, plus $1.50 if buying a small tin of tea masala, the per-serving cost stays low if you make this regularly. The stated 15 minutes is honest; heating water and steeping takes no longer. This single serving doesn't reheat well, so it's a same-night drink, and it's genuinely fussy—the spices need simmering time to release their flavor, not just a hot-water dunk.
