Ingredients
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup melted butter
3/4 cup caramel ice cream topping
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup quick cooking oats
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x9 inch square baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the quick cooking oats, all-purpose flour, packed brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture is evenly moistened and crumbly.
Press half of the oat mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan, creating an even base layer.
Bake the oat crust for 10 minutes at 350°F (175°C) until lightly set.
Remove the pan from the oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts evenly over the warm crust.
In a small bowl, stir together the caramel ice cream topping and the 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour until well combined. Drizzle this caramel mixture evenly over the chocolate chips and walnuts.
Break the remaining oat mixture into small, bite-sized crumbles and distribute them evenly over the caramel layer, pressing gently to help them adhere.
Bake for an additional 15 minutes at 350°F (175°C) until the top is golden brown and the filling is set. The edges should pull slightly away from the sides of the pan.
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into 36 squares.
