Ingredients
2 tablespoons hot water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 shot Irish whiskey
2 to 2 1/2 shots hot espresso
1 1/2 cups heavy cream, chilled
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Directions
Pour the hot water into a coffee mug. Add the brown sugar and stir continuously until the brown sugar dissolves completely.
Pour the Irish whiskey into the mug and stir to combine with the sweetened water.
Top off the mug with the hot espresso shots and stir gently to blend all ingredients.
Prepare the whipped cream by adding the chilled heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest to a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment.
Whip the cream mixture on medium-high speed just until soft peaks form. Do not overbeat.
Top the Irish coffee with several generous dollops of the lemon-vanilla whipped cream.
Serve immediately with a spoon for sipping.
Comments
All ingredients are standard pantry staples available at any Charlotte grocery chain without a special trip. The actual prep time is closer to 15 minutes once you account for heating water, brewing or pulling espresso, whipping cream, and carefully layering—the 10-minute claim assumes ingredients are already assembled and espresso is instant. At roughly $3 to $4 per serving, this is an indulgent but reasonable treat drink, with the whiskey and espresso being the primary cost drivers. It's a same-night dessert cocktail that does not reheat or keep, so it works best as an occasional evening ritual rather than a practical weeknight option for a family.
