Honeyed Figs with Melted Cheese
Recipe GLPRc2b3db66cff56e
Fresh figs are warmed in a nonstick pan, drizzled with honey, and split open to reveal their tender interior. A cube of creamy mozzarella is nestled into the center of each fig, then gently heated until the cheese melts and the fruit's bottom develops a light caramel. Finished with a scatter of fresh blueberries, this elegant dish makes a memorable dessert or refined side course.

Ingredients
8 fresh figs
4 tablespoons honey
8 fresh mozzarella cubes
1 handful fresh blueberries
Directions
Arrange the fresh figs in a nonstick skillet in a single layer over medium-low heat.
Drizzle the honey evenly over the figs, coating the bottom of each fruit. Using a sharp paring knife, carefully split each fig lengthwise from the top three-quarters of the way down, leaving the very bottom intact so the fig remains mostly whole.
Gently press open each split fig and place one cube of fresh mozzarella into the center cavity.
Cover the skillet and cook over medium-low heat for approximately 10 minutes, until the mozzarella melts and the bottom of each fig develops a light caramel color.
Carefully transfer the warm figs to serving plates, and top each with a few fresh blueberries.
Serve immediately while the cheese is warm and creamy.
Comments
Fresh figs are a late-summer to early-fall seasonal item in North Carolina, and even when in season at Harris Teeter or Kroger they run $4–6 per pound, making this an occasional indulgence rather than a weeknight staple. The 15-minute claim holds if you're halving figs and assembling on a platter, but oven-roasting to melt the cheese properly adds another 8–10 minutes. The dish itself is a no-reheat appetizer or light course—best served warm and fresh the same evening. For a household wanting something sweet, savory, and fussy enough to feel special, this works; budget the seasonal premium and the real prep time, and it rewards you with an elegant, low-fuss starter.
