A vibrant, tangy-sweet condiment made with fresh peaches, warm spices, and bright aromatics. Golden raisins add chewy sweetness while ginger, garlic, and jalapeño provide depth and a subtle heat. Perfect as a spread, dip, or accompaniment to cheese and cured meats.

Ingredients

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup light brown sugar, loosely packed

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated

1/3 cup golden raisins

1 small jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely diced

1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely diced

1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced

1 1/2 pounds fresh yellow peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Pour the apple cider vinegar, granulated sugar, and brown sugar into a large non-reactive saucepan or Dutch oven.

  2. Set the pan over medium heat and stir frequently until the mixture reaches a gentle boil, about 3–4 minutes.

  3. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, golden raisins, diced jalapeño, red bell pepper, diced onion, and salt. Stir well to combine.

  4. Maintain a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the aromatics are fragrant and the raisins have softened.

  5. Stir in the peach slices and continue simmering for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The mixture should thicken, the peaches should lose their firmness, and the liquid should reduce noticeably.

  6. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the chutney to cool for at least 15 minutes at room temperature.

  7. Serve at room temperature as a condiment or dip. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

All ingredients are available year-round at any major Charlotte chain—peaches peak in summer but frozen work fine, and the dried goods are staples everywhere. The stated 45 minutes is honest for a chutney that requires chopping and simmering, with no hidden steps. Cost runs roughly $1.50–$2.00 per serving depending on peach price and whether you use fresh or frozen, making it reasonable for a condiment. This is a make-ahead dish that reheats well and stores for weeks, perfect for meal prep, but it's not a main course and requires active stirring near the end to avoid scorching, so it's not entirely hands-off.
