Ingredients
3 handfuls fresh jujubes (about 15–20 pieces), rinsed
1 large piece fresh ginger (about 2–3 inches), cut into chunks
2 cinnamon sticks
2 cups water
Directions
Pour 2 cups of water into a small pot or kettle and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
While the water heats, prepare the ingredients: rinse the jujubes under cool water, remove any debris, and cut the fresh ginger into rough chunks.
Once the water reaches a rolling boil, add the jujubes, ginger chunks, and cinnamon sticks to the pot.
Reduce heat to medium and simmer uncovered for 12–15 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse fully. The tea should take on a warm amber color and develop a sweet, spiced aroma.
Pour the tea into your serving cup, using a fine strainer or slotted spoon to catch the solids. Add whole jujubes to the cup if desired for a more traditional presentation.
Serve hot and enjoy immediately.
Comments
Jujubes are not a staple at Charlotte's mainstream grocers—you'll need to make a stop at an Asian market like H Mart or Lucky near Uptown to source them fresh or dried, which adds real friction to a weeknight plan. Ginger, cinnamon, and water are trivial, so ingredient cost runs under two dollars a serving once you've cleared that first hurdle. The stated twenty minutes is honest for simmering, though expect an extra five if you're pitting fresh jujubes. This is a restorative single-serve drink, not a meal, and it reheats perfectly, making it smart for meal prep or a quiet evening ritual rather than feeding a family.
