Ingredients

1/3 cup nonfat dry milk

1 cup water

1 cup brewed coffee

4 tablespoons hot chocolate mix

lite whipped topping, optional

cinnamon, optional

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before beginning.

  2. In a small saucepan, combine the nonfat dry milk and water. Stir until the milk powder is fully dissolved and no lumps remain.

  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm the milk mixture until it is hot and steaming, but do not allow it to come to a boil.

  4. Pour the freshly brewed coffee into the warm milk mixture and stir to combine.

  5. Add the hot chocolate mix to the coffee and milk mixture. Stir vigorously until the chocolate powder is completely dissolved and the beverage is smooth.

  6. Heat the mixture to your desired serving temperature, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

  7. Carefully pour the mocha into two serving mugs, dividing equally between them.

  8. If desired, top each mug with a dollop of lite whipped topping and a light sprinkle of cinnamon. Serve immediately while hot.

Grocery List Plus Editorial Staff4.5

This is a practical weeknight beverage that checks every box for a Charlotte kitchen: all six ingredients are shelf-stable staples available at any local grocery chain, and the per-serving cost is negligible—under a dollar when you factor in powdered milk, cocoa mix, and coffee. The ten-minute timer is honest and includes no hidden prep. The real strength is household fit: it's foolproof, requires zero attention once you pour, and works equally well for a quick morning or an evening treat, though as written it's a same-night drink that doesn't reheat well. The cinnamon is a nice touch that costs nothing.
