A simple, wholesome snack made by dehydrating fresh banana slices until crispy. The natural sweetness concentrates as the moisture evaporates, creating a chewy-to-crispy texture perfect for eating straight from the container or adding to trail mix. Optionally treat with citrus juice to preserve color and add a subtle tang, and season with warming spices like cinnamon for extra flavor.

Ingredients

1 ripe banana, peeled

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (optional)

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  1. Peel the banana and slice it into ¼-inch-thick rounds using a sharp knife. If using lemon juice, lightly brush or dip each slice to coat both sides; this helps prevent browning and adds a subtle citrus note.

  2. Arrange the banana slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If desired, lightly sprinkle the cinnamon or other seasoning over the slices.

  3. Place the baking sheet in a preheated 200°F (93°C) oven. Dehydrate for 2½ to 3 hours, stirring halfway through, until the slices are dried to your preferred texture—chewy or fully crispy.

  4. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the banana slices to cool completely on the pan for at least 15 minutes.

  5. Once cooled, transfer the dried banana slices to an airtight container or resealable bag. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 2 weeks.
