Ingredients
1 can (5 ounce) water-packed tuna, drained
2 medium celery stalks, finely chopped
1/2 cup shredded American cheese
1/4 cup light mayonnaise
1 tablespoon instant minced onion
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
12 slices whole wheat bread
Directions
Drain the canned tuna thoroughly, removing excess water. Transfer to a medium bowl and flake with a fork.
Add the chopped celery, light mayonnaise, instant minced onion, salt, and black pepper to the tuna. Mix gently until combined into a uniform spread.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Divide the tuna mixture into 6 equal portions. Arrange 6 slices of whole wheat bread on the prepared baking sheet.
Spread one portion of the tuna mixture evenly on each bread slice, leaving a small margin at the edges.
Top each tuna-covered slice with 1/2 cup of shredded American cheese, distributing evenly across all 6 sandwiches.
Place the remaining 6 bread slices on top of each tuna and cheese layer to create 6 closed sandwiches.
Cover the baking sheet loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 8–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is warmed through.
Carefully pierce the foil covering with a knife to release steam. Remove the foil and serve immediately while hot.
