Ingredients
1 1/2 lb ground turkey
1/2 small onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon sea salt
1 tablespoon fresh cracked pepper
1 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
4 large pineapple slices, fresh or canned
1 tablespoon honey
4 whole wheat buns
Extra basil leaves for topping (optional)
Directions
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, diced onion, minced garlic, chopped fresh basil, allspice, cinnamon, ground ginger, sea salt, fresh cracked pepper, brown sugar, and teriyaki sauce. Mix gently with your hands until all ingredients are evenly incorporated—do not overmix, as this can make the burgers tough.
Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions and form each into a large patty about 3/4-inch thick. Place the patties directly on the preheated grill. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, turning once halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and there is no pink remaining.
While the burgers are cooking, place the pineapple slices on the grill alongside the patties. Grill the pineapple for approximately 5 to 7 minutes per side until caramelized with light grill marks.
Remove the grilled pineapple from the heat and immediately drizzle each slice with honey. Lightly toast the whole wheat buns on the grill if desired.
Transfer each turkey patty to a toasted bun. Top each burger with a honey-drizzled pineapple slice and add optional fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve immediately.
