Irish Coffee
Recipe GLPRd7ef05446cf20c
A classic Irish cocktail that combines hot freshly brewed black coffee with smooth Irish whiskey, sweetened with sugar, and topped with a luxurious layer of whipped heavy cream. The warmth of the coffee contrasts beautifully with the cool, velvety cream, while the whiskey adds a rich depth of flavor. Perfect for after dinner or as an indulgent treat on a chilly day.

Ingredients
5 cups fresh brewed black coffee
4 ounces Irish whiskey (such as Jameson)
sugar cubes (approximately 3-4 tablespoons sugar)
1 cup heavy cream
Directions
Brew 5 cups of strong black coffee using your preferred method and let it stay hot while you prepare the drinks.
Pour 1 ounce of Irish whiskey into each of 4 heat-safe mugs or glasses.
Add approximately 1 sugar cube (or about ¾ to 1 tablespoon of sugar) to each mug and stir to combine with the whiskey.
Slowly pour 1¼ cups of the hot black coffee into each mug, stirring gently to dissolve the sugar completely.
In a separate container, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form—it should be thick but still pourable.
Gently pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of each coffee drink, allowing it to settle on top in a thick layer.
Serve immediately while the coffee is hot and the cream is cool, stirring the cream into the coffee with each sip if desired.
Comments
All four ingredients are stock items at every Charlotte grocery chain, with whiskey available at the liquor section of Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Publix, Walmart, and Kroger. The total cost runs about $3 to $4 per serving depending on whiskey choice, driven mainly by the spirit; a standard mid-shelf bottle ($20–$30) yields 6–8 drinks. The stated 25 minutes is honest for brewing coffee and whipping cream, though most people finish in 15. This is a same-night dessert drink that doesn't reheat and demands last-minute assembly, so it works well for dinner parties but not meal prep.
