A luxurious, creamy milkshake made with caramelized bananas, coconut milk, and sunflower seed butter. The bananas are first caramelized in butter and coconut sugar until golden and sweet, then blended smooth with coconut milk, cinnamon, and a hint of sea salt for a rich, indulgent dessert beverage.

Ingredients

2 Ripe bananas, sliced lengthwise

3 Tablespoons Grass-fed butter

2 Tablespoons Coconut sugar

1 can Full-fat coconut milk

1 cup Ice

1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon Sea salt

2 Tablespoons Sunflower seed butter

Directions

  1. Melt the grass-fed butter in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally until fully melted and foamy.

  2. Add the coconut sugar to the melted butter and stir continuously until the mixture becomes bubbly and the sugar begins to dissolve, about 1-2 minutes.

  3. Carefully place the banana slices into the butter-sugar mixture and cook for approximately 3 minutes on the first side until golden brown and caramelized, then flip and cook another 3 minutes on the other side until both sides are deeply caramelized.

  4. Pour the full-fat coconut milk into a blender, then add the ice, ground cinnamon, sea salt, and sunflower seed butter.

  5. Transfer the caramelized bananas and all pan drippings from the skillet into the blender with the other ingredients.

  6. Blend all ingredients on high speed until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Every ingredient is available at any major Charlotte chain—bananas and butter are universally stocked, coconut milk sits in the baking aisle at Harris Teeter and Food Lion, and sunflower seed butter is mainstream enough now that Kroger and Walmart carry it without issue, making this a one-stop shop. The cost per serving lands around $1.50 to $2.00 given that bananas are cheap year-round and coconut milk is typically under $2 a can; the bottleneck is the sunflower seed butter if you're buying it for the first time, but it's not premium-priced. The stated 15 minutes is honest if you count just blending, though caramelizing the banana slices in butter before freezing them adds another 5 to 7 minutes of hands-on work that the recipe should flag. It reheats terribly as a leftover—milkshakes are best same-night—and the texture will separate if you make it ahead, so this is a quick-drink recipe, not meal-prep friendly.
