Ingredients

extra firm tofu, 1 block (14 oz)

3 tablespoons tamari sauce

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced or grated

2 tablespoons neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or sesame oil)

2 teaspoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly oil it.

  2. Remove the tofu from its packaging and drain the water. Wrap the block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Press gently but firmly for 2-3 minutes to remove excess moisture, then unwrap.

  3. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the tamari sauce, minced ginger, oil, and brown sugar until well combined.

  5. Drizzle the glaze over the tofu cubes and toss gently with a spatula to coat all sides evenly.

  6. Spread the tofu in a single layer and bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the edges are golden and slightly caramelized.

  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the sesame seeds over the top while still warm. Serve hot, optionally over steamed rice or with your favorite vegetables.
