Ingredients

white granulated sugar for glass rim

1 orange wedge

2 oz Kahlúa coffee liqueur

1 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey

1 oz ABSOLUT vodka

1/4 oz heavy cream

ice

Directions

  1. Prepare the glass rim by rubbing the orange wedge around the top edge of a rocks glass, then dip the moistened rim into white granulated sugar to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.

  2. Fill the sugar-rimmed rocks glass with ice, filling it about three-quarters full.

  3. Pour 2 oz of Kahlúa into the glass over the ice.

  4. Add 1 oz of Jameson Irish Whiskey to the glass.

  5. Pour in 1 oz of ABSOLUT vodka.

  6. Gently float 1/4 oz of heavy cream on top by pouring it slowly over the back of a bar spoon, allowing it to layer rather than mixing.

  7. Garnish with the orange wedge and serve immediately.

Grocery List Plus Editorial Staff4.5

Every ingredient is on the shelf at any major Charlotte grocer—sugar, fresh orange, Kahlúa and Jameson whiskey at Food Lion or Kroger, vodka at Walmart or ALDI, heavy cream everywhere. The stated five minutes is honest; you zest or squeeze the orange, pour spirits and cream, add ice, stir. At roughly $2.50 to $3.00 per serving for the spirits and cream alone, it's an evening-out drink, not a weeknight pour, but the cost is transparent and not driven by a rare ingredient. The only minor friction is that Kahlúa can vary in shelf space between stores, but a standard order at any of the six majors will yield it. This is a fussy, same-night cocktail that demands fresh ice and does not reheat, so it fits a planned gathering rather than meal prep, but for what it is—a balanced, accessible drink—it works without compromise.
