Ingredients
1 medium apple, cored and chopped
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons raisins
3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 1/2 cups water
Directions
Rinse the apple under cool running water and pat dry. Using a vegetable peeler or small knife, carefully remove the skin from the apple.
Cut the apple in half and use a small knife or apple corer to remove the core from the center. Discard the core.
Cut the peeled apple into small, bite-sized pieces and set aside.
Pour the water into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Once the water is boiling, add the rolled oats, raisins, chopped apple, and cinnamon to the saucepan. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
Remove from heat when the oatmeal reaches your desired thickness and the oats are tender. Divide into two bowls and serve warm.
Comments
This is a straightforward weeknight winner for a Charlotte breakfast. All five ingredients are permanent stock at every major chain here—Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Kroger, Walmart, ALDI—with no special trips needed, and the total cost per serving lands around 60–80 cents, driven by oats as the bulk ingredient. The stated 15 minutes is honest: five minutes to dice an apple and measure dry goods, then a ten-minute simmer, with minimal active attention required. It reheats perfectly in the microwave the next morning, and it's naturally forgiving enough for a rushed weekday without fussy technique.
