Ingredients
1/4 cup chilled heavy cream
2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
3/4 cup hot strong brewed coffee
Directions
Pour the chilled heavy cream into a mixing bowl. Add the sugar and whip with an electric mixer or whisk until soft peaks form and the cream just begins to hold its shape. Do not overbeat.
Pour the Irish whiskey into a heatproof glass or Irish coffee mug.
Slowly pour the hot strong coffee into the glass with the whiskey, filling it approximately three-fourths full. Stir gently to combine.
Top the coffee mixture with a generous spoonful of the whipped cream, letting it settle naturally on the surface. Serve immediately.
Comments
Irish coffee is dead-simple to execute and every ingredient is stocked at any Charlotte supermarket—heavy cream, sugar, and coffee at any chain, Irish whiskey at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Publix, or Walmart liquor sections without a special trip. The stated five minutes is honest; this is genuinely that fast. The real constraint is that it's a one-serving drink best consumed immediately while the cream floats and the coffee is hot, so it does not reheat or batch well for a family meal. At roughly two dollars for the drink itself, it's a reasonable occasional treat, but the lack of scalability and leftovers makes it a special-occasion rather than weeknight recipe.
