Ingredients

2 piña colada frozen fruit bars

2 cups frozen strawberries

1 cup fresh orange juice

1/4 cup Bacardi rum (adults only; optional)

Directions

  1. Remove the piña colada frozen fruit bars from the freezer and allow them to soften slightly on the counter for approximately 5 minutes. This will make them easier to remove from the sticks.

  2. Once softened, carefully remove the bars from their wooden sticks and place them in your blender.

  3. Add the frozen strawberries, fresh orange juice, and rum (if making the adult version) to the blender with the fruit bars.

  4. Blend all ingredients on high speed until completely smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds to 1 minute, until no ice chunks remain.

  5. Pour the smoothie evenly into two glasses. If desired, top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream for extra richness.

  6. For a kid-friendly version, simply omit the rum and blend with the remaining ingredients. Serve immediately and enjoy.

The 45-minute stated time is misleading—this is a 5-minute blend with no real prep beyond thawing the fruit bars at room temperature. Pina colada bars are stocked at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Walmart year-round, and strawberries and orange juice are available everywhere. The cost per serving lands around $3.50–$4.00 depending on rum choice, making it one of the cheapest dessert cocktails you can assemble. The main caveat: this is not a balanced meal and drinks nothing like a real smoothie, since frozen fruit bars are mostly sugar and coconut cream. It works perfectly as a Friday-night treat for two, reheats into something drinkable if frozen, and North Carolina's winter strawberries keep the ingredient list local.
