Ingredients
6 slices bacon
2 pounds sliced deli ham
1 pound sliced Swiss cheese
1 package King's Hawaiian Hamburger Buns (approximately 8 buns)
8 tablespoons salted butter, divided
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 medium yellow onion
Directions
Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain and cool. Once cooled, break each slice into pieces or leave whole depending on preference.
Peel and slice the yellow onion into thin strips. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a small skillet over low heat. Add the onion slices and cook gently for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and very sweet. Set aside.
Melt the remaining 7 tablespoons of butter in a small bowl. Whisk in the Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Set the butter mixture aside.
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Cut aluminum foil into large squares, one for each sandwich.
Carefully split each Hawaiian bun in half. Brush the cut side of each bottom bun half with the butter-mustard mixture.
Layer the following on each bottom bun half in order: a portion of the sliced ham, a generous helping of the caramelized onions, the cooked bacon pieces, and a slice or two of Swiss cheese to cover.
Brush the cut side of each top bun half with the remaining butter-mustard mixture. Place on top of the cheese layer to close each sandwich.
Wrap each completed sandwich tightly in a foil square. Place all wrapped sandwiches on a baking sheet.
Bake for 20 minutes, until the sandwiches are heated throughout and the cheese is completely melted.
Carefully unwrap the foil and serve immediately. Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator with wax paper between them to prevent sticking. Reheat wrapped in foil at 350°F until warm, or microwave for about 1 minute.
