Vietnamese Iced Coffee

A rich and indulgent Vietnamese-style iced coffee made with dark roast coffee and sweetened condensed milk. This traditional beverage is smooth, creamy, and perfectly sweetened. You can prepare it using either a simple steeping method or with a traditional metal Vietnamese coffee filter (phin) for the most authentic result.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons dark-roast ground coffee (preferably Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde with chicory)
⅔ cup boiling water (for simple steeping method) or 1 cup boiling water (for metal filter method)
2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
Ice cubes
Directions
Choose your brewing method. For the simple steeping method: place the ground coffee in a heatproof container and pour ⅔ cup of boiling water over it. Let it steep for 4 minutes to fully extract the coffee flavors.
For the traditional metal filter method (phin): bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove the top screen from the filter, add the ground coffee to the filter chamber, and screw the top screen back on securely.
Place the assembled metal filter directly over a heatproof 12-ounce glass or measuring cup. Pour a small splash of the hot water into the filter to bloom the coffee grounds, allowing them to release their flavors. Once the coffee begins to drip, pour enough water to fill the filter to the top.
Place the lid on the filter and allow the coffee to drip slowly for about 4 minutes. If the dripping stops before 4 minutes, gently loosen the screw valve to relieve any pressure buildup and allow more coffee to flow through.
For the simple steeping method: after 4 minutes, pour the brewed coffee through a coffee filter into a heatproof glass.
Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until completely blended and smooth. Add ice cubes and stir well to combine. Serve immediately and enjoy.
