Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 large red cabbage, sliced 1/4-inch thick
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
Kosher salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Directions
Melt the butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
Add the sliced red cabbage to the melted butter and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften.
Sprinkle the sugar over the cabbage and stir well to combine. Let cook for 2 minutes until the sugar begins to caramelize slightly.
Pour in the balsamic vinegar and stir to mix thoroughly. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the skillet with a lid or foil. Simmer for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is very tender and the liquid has reduced to a glossy glaze.
Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve warm as a side dish.
