Ingredients
1 (15-oz.) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons coconut aminos
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Directions
Pour the tomato sauce, balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, and coconut aminos into a medium saucepan. Add the Dijon mustard, kosher salt, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, and paprika.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for about 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens.
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt and freshly ground black pepper as needed. Allow to cool before serving or storing.
Comments
Coconut aminos is the hitch—most Charlotte chains carry it only at specialty sections or not at all, forcing a trip to Harris Teeter or Whole Foods for what should be a pantry staple on a weeknight. Every other ingredient (tomato sauce, vinegars, mustard, spices) is a guaranteed stock item at Food Lion or Walmart. The cost is moderate, around $1.50 to $2 per serving once you account for the coconut aminos bottle. The stated 25 minutes is honest for mixing and simmering, but the real constraint is ingredient hunting. It reheats perfectly and makes enough to stash in the fridge for a week of pulled pork or chicken.
