Ingredients

2¼ cups Water

½ cup Thai tea leaves

2 tablespoons Sugar

½ cup Sweetened condensed milk

½ cup Whole milk

Directions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the Thai tea leaves to the boiling water and stir to combine.

  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the tea steep for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to develop fully.

  4. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher or bowl, discarding the tea leaves.

  5. Stir the sugar into the warm tea until completely dissolved.

  6. Allow the brewed tea to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.

  7. Pour the chilled tea into serving glasses filled with ice.

  8. Add 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk to each glass.

  9. Top each glass with approximately 1.5 tablespoons of whole milk and stir gently to blend the creamy layers.

Thai tea leaves are not stocked at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Publix, Walmart, or ALDI in Charlotte—you'll need to stop at an Asian market like Panda Supermarket or H-Mart for the foundation ingredient. The stated 25 minutes ignores steeping time; expect 35–45 minutes total, including cooling before serving. Cost per serving runs about $1.20 once you've bought loose Thai tea, condensed milk, and whole milk, all ingredients that keep. The drink itself reheats well and suits a crowd, making it a solid choice for entertaining or a hot afternoon, but the sourcing trip is real friction for a weeknight impulse.
