Ingredients
½ cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
3 large egg yolks
2 tbsp milk
2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
Directions
In a medium bowl, beat together the softened butter and white sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Add the egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk until the mixture is smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring until the dough just comes together and no streaks of flour remain.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap or place it in a resealable bag. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to handle.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch.
Using a 2 1/4-inch cookie cutter, cut out cookies from the rolled dough.
Place the cut cookies about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Comments
This is a straightforward cinnamon cookie that checks all the practical boxes for Charlotte cooking. Every ingredient—butter, sugar, egg yolks, milk, flour, cinnamon, baking powder, salt—is a staple at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Kroger, Walmart, and ALDI, with zero special trips required. The stated 155 minutes is honest for a batch of 72 cookies: that's mostly chilling and baking time, not active work. The real cost per serving is negligible, probably under $0.10, driven only by butter and cinnamon. These cookies keep well for days and reheat fine, making them ideal for weeknight prep or a weekend bake-ahead for the week ahead.
