Ingredients

1 cup Chilled plain yogurt

1 Green chili, finely minced

small handful Fresh cilantro, finely chopped

small handful Curry leaves, finely chopped

1 teaspoon Fresh ginger juice

¾ teaspoon Chaat masala

¾ teaspoon Black salt (kala namak)

Salt, to taste

2 cups Water, chilled

Directions

  1. Pour the chilled yogurt into a blender or bowl with a wire whisk.

  2. Add the finely minced green chili, chopped cilantro, chopped curry leaves, ginger juice, chaat masala, black salt, and salt to taste into the yogurt.

  3. Blend or whisk the mixture until the herbs and chili are almost ground into tiny particles, ensuring a smooth consistency without noticeable chunks. This prevents biting into the chili and herb pieces while drinking.

  4. Add the chilled water to the blended mixture and whisk or blend again until well combined and frothy.

  5. If the mixture is not sufficiently chilled, refrigerate for 15–20 minutes. Pour into serving glasses and serve immediately while cold.

Curry leaves and chaat masala require a second stop—ALDI carries neither reliably, so expect a trip to an Indian grocery in Charlotte's Marketplace area or online ordering. The base yogurt and remaining aromatics (cilantro, ginger, chilis, salt) are standard at Harris Teeter or Food Lion, making cost per serving negligible when amortized across the small quantity. The stated 10 minutes is honest, though extracting fresh ginger juice adds a minute or two beyond blending. This is a weekend-friendly condiment or drink for Indian meal pairings rather than a weeknight staple, and it does not reheat—prepare it fresh and consume immediately.
