Ingredients

4 Eggs

1 cup Sugar

4 cups Low-fat milk

5 tablespoons Butter, melted

2 cups Matzo meal

1 teaspoon Salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, crack the eggs and add the sugar. Beat vigorously with an electric mixer or whisk until the mixture is light, fluffy, and pale, about 2–3 minutes.

  3. Pour the milk and melted butter into the egg mixture. Stir until fully combined and smooth.

  4. Add the matzo meal and salt to the wet ingredients. Mix gently but thoroughly until no lumps remain and the batter is uniform.

  5. Butter an 11×13-inch baking pan thoroughly to prevent sticking. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

  6. Bake at 350°F for 60 minutes. The kugel is done when the top is light golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Do not overbake, as this will dry out the texture.

  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5–10 minutes before cutting into slices.

  8. Serve warm or allow to cool to room temperature. The kugel can be enjoyed hot, warm, or cold, depending on your preference.
